Technically, cologne is a specific kind of perfume that came from, well, Cologne, which is one of the biggest cities that can be found in Germany. The initial product was a kind of spirit-citrus perfume produced by a perfumier named Johann Maria Farina, but as time passed, more and more people have produced more and more kinds of cologne, so much so that it is now a very generic term that tends to be used in reference to perfumes for men. Regardless, while most perfumes have reasonable prices, it should come as no surprise to learn that there are some examples out there with prices so high that they can be hard to believe.

Here are five of the most expensive perfumes for men that can be found in the entire world:

Clive Christian 1872 Perfume Spray for Men – $650

Interested individuals should expect to see the name Clive Christian come up a number of times on this list. For those who are curious, Clive Christian is a British man who started out as a designer who became famous for designer kitchens but has long since become the head of Clive Christian Perfume. Regardless, the 1872 Perfume Spray for Men comes in at a price of $650 for a 1.7 oz bottle, which contains a mix of notes from vegetable sources that are intended to provide a long-lasting scent.

Eau D’Hadrien Annick Goutal Perfume – $1,500

This particular perfume for men incorporates ingredients that include but are not limited to citron, lemon, Sicilian lemon, mandarin, and ylang ylang, which are but some of the citrus fruits that have been blended to create its unique smell. With that said, most of the $1,500 cost actually comes from the 3 oz bottle used to contain the Eau D’Hadrien Annick Goutal Perfume, which is made out of Baccarat crystal. Of course, Baccarat crystal is made by Baccarat Crystal, which is a French manufacturer of fine crystal glassware that can be found in the town of Baccarat. The name is rather confusing, but it is worth mentioning that Baccarat Crystal was founded in the 18th century, which explains much about how it picked up its name.

Clive Christian’s No. 1 Perfume for Men – $2,000

This would be Clive Christian Perfume’s second product on this list. In this case, it is priced at $2,000 per bottle, which can be attributed to a couple of factors. First, there is the bottle, which is made out of Baccarat crystal as well. Second, there are the ingredients used in the perfume, which are rather rare and precious in nature. Overall, the result is an intriguing mix of floral, woody, and even spicy scents that seems to have found favor with a fair amount of people out there.

Caron’s Poivre – $2,800

Technically, Caron’s Poivre is a perfume that is supposed to be suitable for use by both men and women. Regardless, the bottle contributes a fair amount to its $2,800 per bottle value, seeing as how it is made out of Baccarat crystal. However, the result can be attributed to the perfume itself, which combines notes of spice with other smells to create something that is pleasing to the senses but nonetheless much more versatile in nature than most of its counterparts.

Clive Christian’s Imperial Majesty Perfume for Men – $435,000

Finally, there is Clive Christian Perfume’s Imperial Majesty Perfume for Men, which is by far the most expensive perfume for men that can be found out there. After all, it has a price tag of $435,000 per 16.9 oz bottle, meaning that it should be very clear that most of the value isn’t coming from the perfume but rather from the bottle. Once again, the bottle is made out of Baccarat crystal. However, this time, the bottle has been topped with a gold piece around its neck as well as a white diamond weighing a total of 5 carats on top, which explains much about the difference between this particular perfume and the runner-up. As for the ingredients used in the Imperial Majesty Perfume for Men, well, suffice to say that some of them are rather exciting in nature. For example, cedar wood has long been prized for its aromatic nature, which is why it is mentioned in some of humanity’s oldest stories as something of worth. Meanwhile, the tonka beans are supposed to have a remarkable taste but are literally banned in the United States when served up as food because they can be dangerous when ingested in excessive quantities.
